Iranian Company Produces Single-Component Polyurethane Adhesive

TEHRAN (ANA)- A knowledge-based company in Iran has succeeded in indigenizing a single-component polyurethane adhesive that dries completely in the presence of moisture and creates a strong, crystalline structure to bond different surfaces.

“We are active in three fields: polyurethane adhesives and resins used in the automotive industry, additives and catalysts for the oil, petrochemical, and drilling industries, and research and development in the field of renewable energies,” said Qassem Kasaiyan, the managing director of the company.

“The result of these activities over the past three years has been the indigenization of multiple grades of adhesives, foam raw materials, drilling cement additives, as well as the implementation of projects to develop technical knowledge in the field of catalysts and polymer composites,” he added.

“HSP-AD-110P single-component polyurethane adhesive is one of our company's knowledge-based products that completely dries in the presence of moisture and creates a strong, crystalline structure, allowing it to bond different surfaces,” Kasaiyan said.

“This adhesive is used in various industries, including shipbuilding and boatbuilding, wood, construction, sandwich panel and mattress manufacturing, and the adhesive works without solvents,” he added.

Noting that the nominal production capacity of this product is 900 tons per year, Kasaiyan said, “The company's actual capacity is greater than the nominal capacity and we can produce up to 8 tons of adhesive per day.”

In a relevant development in November, an Iranian company stationed at the incubator center of Polymer and Petrochemical Research Institute had also used nanotechnology to eliminate the need for carving to strengthen, modify or repair the previous concreting by producing rebar planting adhesive.

“Rebar planting adhesive is a type of glue that is used to connect rebar to structures and buildings. This type of glue is specially used in buildings and structural projects to increase the strength and stability of rebar connections to concrete structures,” said Neda Khodadoost, the sales manager of the company.

“In this new approach for the extension of concreting, new rebar is planted in the old concrete. This work is done by making a hole with a depth of about 25 cm (the exact depth of planting depends on the size of the rebar) in the concrete with a diameter slightly larger than the diameter of the rebar, and injecting glue and placing the rebar in the hole. Based on the tests, the planted rebar will withstand the cut and will not come out of the hole,” she added.

“Modification, repair, improvement, reinforcement and development of concrete structures and installation of heavy equipment on concrete bed are among the uses of this nano-based product,” Khodadoust said.

She underlined that the product, which is the result of efforts of a team of eight people, has an export certificate to Europe.
