Makran is a coastal region of Sistan and Baluchestan province in the Southeastern part of Iran and Southwestern side of Pakistan.

Iran’s Deputy Minister of Agricultural Jihad and Head of Iran Fisheries Organization (IFO) Hossein Hosseini  announced the implementation of 14 fisheries projects in the Makran coastal region and said, "The development of aquatic production can be materialized with people’s participation from the Makran coast, and we hope that we can achieve maximum production by using the capabilities of knowledge-based companies."

“These projects are implemented in an area as large as 65,000 hectares,” the deputy minister said.

The IFO chairman went on to say that the share of fisheries and aquatic products is just one percent of the total production of 125 million tons of agricultural products, while noting that the aquatic products account for 10 percent of the total value of exports of agricultural products.

According to Hosseini, in line with the goal of food security, the share of fisheries and aquatic products is predicted to increase to 2.6 million tons in the next 10 years.
