Iranian Firm Produces Biocompatible Suture Wire for Open Heart Surgeries
“This product has obtained standards and mechanical properties like penetration, bonding force, bending and other parameters and is competitive with similar foreign models,” said Hojjat Mirzayee, the company's production manager.
“Our product is biocompatible and the price of the Iranian model is half the price of the European models,” he added.
“This product has now received all the 10993 standards (Biological Evaluation Standard for Medical Equipment) and has also received the necessary approvals from the Iranian hospitals, including the Heart Center,” Mirzayee said.
Surgical stainless steel suture is a nonabsorabable, sterile surgical suture. The suture is available as a monofilament and multifilament suture.
Surgical stainless steel suture is indicated for use in abdominal wound closure, hernia repair, sternal closure and orthopedic procedures including cerclage and tendon repair.
In a relevant development in 2023, Iranian researchers at a knowledge-based company had also succeeded in making suture anchor with application in orthopedic surgery.
Suture anchors are broadly used for attaching soft tissue (e.g., tendons, ligaments, and meniscus) to the bone and have become essential devices in sports medicine and during orthopedic and arthroscopic surgery.
The knowledge-based Pouya Pharmed Fam company succeeded in producing suture anchor threads which is an important and basic product in orthopedic surgeries.
“The suture anchor has been produced by Pouya Pharmed Fam company in two sizes of 5 mm and 3 mm, and has 4 USP threads size 2 made of polyethylene,” said Hamidreza Farhadi, the managing director of Saman Health Research and Technology Fund.
He added that the high quality of the threads, the ergonomic design of the screwdriver handle for easier use, the inclusion of the screwdriver rod in order to know the exact location of the anchor screw, and the use of titanium for the anchor screw are among the specifications of the product.
