Official: Over 10,000 Knowledge-Based Firms Active in Iran

“By the end of last year, the total number of knowledge-based companies had reached 10,115. This year, 833 new knowledge-based companies were added to the science and technology ecosystem. The total number of knowledge-based companies, taking into account the loss of companies, had increased by 382 companies compared to the previous year,” said Deputy Director for Development of Knowledge-Based Companies Department at the Iranian Vice Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy Touraj Amrayee.
He also announced the launch of a specialized customs office and the establishment of an office based in the country's main customs offices to better facilitate the exports and imports of the knowledge-based companies.
Amrayee noted that the total sales of knowledge-based companies last year were 1,273,000 million tomans, of which, according to him, about 275,000 million tomans were sales of the knowledge-based products.
Amrayee had also announced in March that the knowledge-based firms will have a 7% share of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) by 2028.
“The share of knowledge-based companies in Iran’s GDP will hit seven percent by 2028,” he said.
The official added that the current share of the knowledge-based companies in Iran’s GDP is nearly 2%, noting that therefore, it is necessary to increase sales and exports volumes of domestic knowledge-based products.
Amrayee stated that at present, the country exports $500 million worth of knowledge-based products overseas.
Once the exports barriers are removed, the country’s exports of knowledge-based products will be considerably increased, he added.
