“In 2019, the exports of knowledge-based products was $600 million, but in 2020, due to the spread of the coronavirus, this figure decreased to $300 million. In 2021, the export of knowledge-based products increased to $600 million, in 2022 to $850 million, and in 2023 to $1.5 billion; and this amount is expected to reach $2 billion by the end of the year,” Dehqani Firouzabadi said.

He also announced the establishment of a joint science and technology park by Iran and Uzbekistan.

“We are also looking for opportunities to attract the (scientific) elite. One of our main goals to achieve this goal is to create domestic and foreign markets,” Dehqani Firouzabadi said.

The first meeting of Iran-Uzbekistan joint cooperation group in the field of innovation and technology was held in Tashkent in October, headed by the Iranian vice-president for science, technology and knowledge-based economy and the Uzbek minister of higher education, science and innovation.

Development of direct cooperation between the knowledge-based companies of the two countries and joint startup projects are among the agreements between the two sides during the meeting which paves the ground for activities of the Iranian and Uzbek startups in both neighboring states.

Dehqani Firouzabadi announced that a science and technology park will be established jointly by Iran and Uzbekistan in the city of Samarkand.

The park will be created by the private sector, he added on the sidelines of the meeting in Tashkent with Uzbek Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov.

A number of knowledge-based companies and startups will launch the science and technology park, Dehqani Firouzabadi said, adding that preliminary studies and negotiations will start within the next two months.

Abdurakhmonov, for his part, said that the park will be created in the vicinity of Samarkand University.
