Iran-Made Gold Nanoparticle Kits Able to Detect Viruses, Narcotics Precisely

Researchers at an Iranian company have developed diagnosis kits in which gold nanoparticles have been used to detect viruses and narcotics precisely.

Gold nanoparticles are widely used in biomedical and diagnostic applications.

The company used nanoparticles to detect narcotics, hormones, and hepatitis and Covid-19 viruses, which, according to them, led to more accurate and faster diagnosis and reduced production costs.

The rapid detection kits of the company reduce the response time, increase the detection accuracy, increase the quality, and reduce the price.

Usually, antibodies and proteins are used in rapid detection kits, but since proteins are colorless and difficult to see with the naked eye, it is necessary to use other compounds.

Moreover, the accuracy of antibodies is low. Therefore, the use of gold nanoparticles eliminates the need for antibodies, while having advantages such as increasing the accuracy of detection and reducing the response time.

So far, the company has been able to produce four main groups of the kits for "detection of hormones", "detection of chemicals such as drug compounds", "detection of viruses such as the HIV virus" and "detection of heavy metals and toxins in food and water".

In addition, kits for the detection of "morphine", "amphetamine", "methamphetamine", "methadone" and "THC" are produced.

Iranian Researchers Make Smart Coating to Prevent Moisture from Entering Tablet

Iranian researchers at a knowledge-based company managed to design and make a smart coating which prevents moisture from entering tablets.

“Our product creates a coating on the tablet and makes it easier to swallow and omits the unpleasant taste of the tablet,” Akram Seifi, a representative of the knowledge-based company, told ANA.

“This coating also has specialized applications. It is important if the physician wants the tablet to open in the stomach or intestine. The active ingredient of some tablets is sensitive to moisture and therefore, this polymer coating prevents moisture from entering the tablet,” she added.

“The coating is actually a powder and the polymers used in the powder on the tablet are different based on their function. Various polymers are used to open the tablet in the stomach and intestines. HPMC polymer, for instance, opens in the stomach. This HPMC is actually a chemically-modified cellulose polymer that is harmless to humans,” Seifi said.

She explained that the EUDRAGIT polymer existing in the coating powder leads to disintegration of the tablet in the intestine, adding that the pill has also been made smart based on the coating material and opens in the intestine or stomach as needed.

Iranian Biological Resource Center Able to Send Samples to Researchers within 24 Hours

The Iranian Biological Resource Center is now capable of sending biological samples to researchers within 24 hours for the first time in the Middle East.

“In this center, we must provide biological samples to researchers and people working in the industry,” Mohaddeseh Ramezani, an official with the Iranian Biological Resource Center, said.

One of the problems that have always existed all over the world is the method of providing biological samples to researchers, which is a time-consuming process, especially in the case of microorganisms, she highlighted.

In this line, famous banks in the world, such as ATCC of the United States or DSMZ of Germany, have provided effective solutions in this direction, she added.

“As the first center in Iran and in the Middle East, we have succeeded in providing the same solution too.”

Ramezani went on to say that providing biological samples of microorganisms is time-consuming because the live culture of bacteria does not last long.

“Depending on the type of bacteria, they can last only one to two weeks.”

“Therefore, when a customer requests a bacterium, we have to take it out of the frozen state, culture it and then provide it to the researcher, and this takes about two weeks to a month,” she explained.
