Iranian Firm Produces Medicine from Non-Narcotic Poppy Root to Treat Dry Cough
“One of our products is the opiocough drug whose active ingredient is called noscapine hydrochloride which is taken from the non-narcotic poppy root,” said Meysam Mosaffa, the sales manager of the technological company.
“This substance is quite effective in the treatment of coughs created by influenza and coronavirus disease and it causes production of phlegm,” he added.
“In addition to this effective ingredient, the syrup contains herbals like drosera (sundews) and liquorice which relieve dry and wet coughs,” Mosaffa said.
In a relevant development earlier this year, another technological company in Iran succeeded in producing a herbal medicine to help treat children's asthma.
“This herbal medicine called ‘Z-Cough’ is the only medicine to help the treatment of asthma in children over seven years old,” said Abbas Zojaji, the managing director the technological company.
Noting that the herbal medicine has no side effects of chemical drugs, he said, “It helps treatment of asthma in children, improves lung function, reduces the number and severity of daily and nightly coughs, improves the shortness of breath, and strengthens the immune system.”
Iran ranks fourth in the world in the production of science in the field of traditional medicine.
