Sharif University Experts Build 6-Kilometer Oil Well Drilling Rig

TEHRAN (ANA)- Researchers at Sharif University of Technology succeeded in designing and building a hi-tech mobile coil-cubing rig which is capable of sending the rig up to 6 kilometers deep into the oil well and performing complex operations like acid spraying.

“Another high-tech product manufactured in our company is the coil-cubing rig or mobile coil-cubing rig. The equipment is used in the oil industry to perform well repair operations and services like acid spraying and is capable of sending a rig up to 6 kilometers deep into the well,” Reza Pouya, the Marketing and Commercialization Manager of the Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research of Sharif University of Technology.

“This rig was previously imported, and its domestic production is an important step in preventing foreign exchange outflows and strengthening national production capacity,” he added.

“One of our most important achievements is the design and construction of the roll test rig. This device is used at the end of the car assembly line to adjust the angles of wheels and lights,” Pouya said.

Relevant reports said in October that Iran-made rigs and compressors were used in Azadegan and Yadavaran oil and gas fields which increased the share of domestic equipment up to 65%.

While Iran has more than 28 joint oil and gas fields with neighboring countries, the Ministry of Oil has announced that by the end of 1404, more than 65% of the equipment used in the development projects of these fields will be provided by domestic and knowledge-based companies.

According to an official report by the National Iranian Oil Company, last year, about 32 onshore rigs and four offshore rigs were active in the development operations of seven joint fields, including South and North Azadegan, Yadavaran, Yaran, Arvand, Forouzan, and Salman. Of these, 9 onshore rigs and one offshore rig were completely domestically built.
