Iranian Scientists Study Impact of Form of Buildings on Reducing Carbon Emissions in Urban Areas
The results of this study indicate that in addition to macro-level studies that examine regional structure and urban clusters, micro-level studies that examine urban blocks, neighborhoods, and three-dimensional features of the built environment also play an effective role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
“Climate plays an important role in determining the impact of built environment factors on carbon emissions,” Katayoun Taqizadeh, a faculty member of the University of Tehran.
Considering the Köppen climate classification system, most current studies have focused on Dwa, Cwa, and Cfa climates, while many areas with rapid urban growth, such as emerging metropolises in developing countries, lie outside the aforementioned climates,” she added.
“Focusing on these areas in the future will increase the scope and applicability of research,” Taqizadeh said.
In a relevant development in 2024, specialists of an Iranian knowledge-based company had also designed and developed an intelligent system which significantly saves and accurately monitors energy consumption in urban water, sewage and gas distribution systems.
“The intelligent system for optimizing operation, planning and maintenance in industrial facilities is based on Digital Twin and artificial intelligence, which has been indigenized to optimize the operation of facilities,” said Morteza Taqvayee Hosseinzadeh, the managing director of the knowledge-based company.
Noting that the platform has been used in the urban water and sewage facilities in several cities, he said, “This system has also been implemented in the gas distribution network of Mashhad.”
Taqvayee Hosseinzadeh stated that designing and development of the intelligent operating system in the field of water and gas supply network leads to significant energy savings, adding, “With the software engineering studies that we carried out, we designed this meta-system in a modular way so that we can use the artificial intelligence in other fields, including oil, gas and mining industries, etc. too.”
“Based on the structure of the produced software, we have also developed general products like the smart project control system, the management dashboard system, and the behavior prediction system, which are used in all public and private organizations and companies,” he said.
