“A multifaceted research project on the transfer of technical know-how of special explosives for the explosion of structures and their controlled destruction is being carried out in cooperation with the defense ministry with the support of the Iranian Armed Forces,” Mohammad Taji, a faculty member of the department of Mining Engineering at the Islamic Azad University’s Shahroud branch, told ANA.

“The achievements of this national project include the production, indigenization and transfer of technical know-how of making special explosives and the field implementation on a real scale of the destruction of structures by explosion operations,” he added.

“By implementing this national project, technological development, sedimentation and consolidation of knowledge and technology for the explosive destruction of structures will be provided, and the main achievement of this national project will be the commercialization of this knowledge and the development of relevant technical, executive, safety, protective and environmental guidelines,” Taji said.

A systematic and appropriate selection of columns to be removed should be conducted to ensure the safe and reliable demolition of old or uninhabitable buildings. However, the explosive demolition techniques used at present mostly rely on experiences and know-how built up by predecessors and are not fully open to general users.

Therefore, a clear selection criterion for columns to be removed should be developed based on a quantitative value that indicates the contribution of each column in a building structure.
