Iran, SCO Member States Trade over 21 Billion Dollars in 6 Months

TEHRAN (ANA)- Iran and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states exchanged nearly 37 million tons of goods worth of $21.7 billion in the first half of the current Persian calendar year (started on March 21), an official said.

36,982,692 tons of products, valued at $21,736,834,106, were exchanged between Iran and 11 member states of the SCO in the first six months of the current Iranian calendar year, said Spokesman of the Trade Promotion Commission of Iran’s House of Industry, Mine and Trade Rouhollah Latifi.

He made the remarks after Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber participated at the 22nd Meeting of Prime Ministers of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Of the total volume of goods exchanged between Iran and the SCO member states, over 31 million tons of non-oil products, valued at over $10 billion, were exported from Iran to the SCO member states, Latifi said, adding that Iran imported over 5 million tons of non-oil goods, valued at more than $11 billion, from SCO member states in this period.

Iran’s non-oil trade with SCO member states from March 21 to September 22, 2023 registered a 42 and a 10 percent hike in weight and value respectively, he noted.

Latifi stated that Iran’s import of products from SCO member states in the first half of the current Iranian calendar year showed a 21 and a 24 percent growth in weight and value respectively compared to last year’s corresponding period.

China, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Russia were the first to five countries that imported $69 billion, $1.1 billion, $939.3 million, $815.8 million and $440.4 million worth of products from Iran respectively in the past 6 months, he said.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization, or Shanghai Pact, is a Eurasian political, economic, and security alliance, the creation of which was announced on June 15, 2001, in Shanghai, China by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan; the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Charter, formally establishing the organization, was signed in June 2002 and entered into force on September 19, 2003.
