Iranian Firm Produces Most Advanced Filters to Fight Air Pollution

TEHRAN (ANA)- An Iranian knowledge-based company has been able to fight against air pollution by producing the most state-of-the-art air filters.

“These filters have been able to remove over 99.9 percent of suspended particles like allergens, viruses and even bacteria, thus providing an efficient solution to ensure health and improve the quality of life,” said Gholamreza Nejad Doost, the managing director of Behineh Sazan Teb Abzar company.

Noting that the air filters are designed with interwoven layers of fiberglass fibers and special polymers to not allow any particles, even as small as 0.3 microns, to pass through, he said, “The accordion structure of these fibers gives them a greater capacity to absorb and retain particles.”

He described the three main working mechanisms of these filters as blockage of the particle path, trapping due to tissue density, and diffusion and dispersion, and said, “The smallest particles are trapped on the sides of the fibers as they pass through, particles larger than 1 micron are trapped in the dense tissue of the fibers, and particles are trapped irregularly in the filter due to collisions with gas molecules.”

In a relevant development last year, Iranian nanotechnology experts had also managed to manufacture special air filters for power plants by using nanofibers.

Specialists at ‘Nano Fanavaran Khavar’, ‘Azad Filter’, and ‘Behran Filter’ companies have made the electrospun nanofibers-containing filters used in power plants to protect equipment against the contaminants.

The nanofibers can entirely cover the surface of the filter, leading to a longer filter service lifetime.

The incorporation of nanofibers into the filters has resulted in improved filtering efficiency and prolonged service time.

Earlier this year, an Iranian knowledge-based company had also used nanofibers to make filters for industrial units, specially power plants, last longer.

Nanofiber filters possess a handful of advantages over conventional fibers.

Nanofiber filters tend to have very high filtration efficiency. They require less energy for the air to ventilate through them.
