TEHRAN (ANA)- A company in Yazd Agricultural Research Development Center, in Central Iran, managed to produce supplement pills and face masks using spirulina algae.

As much as 60-70 percent of spirulina is protein, and this type of protein contains strong antioxidants that can be used as a raw material for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and hygiene, said Alireza Soltani, the managing director of the company.

Spirulina algae, known as green gold, is a complete food due to its high protein and vitamin content and various uses in the pharmaceutical industry.

Although spirulina algae have been considered a food supplement in recent decades. It has opened its place in the diet and medicine markets of most advanced societies.

As a miracle of nature that is rich in minerals, vitamins, and proteins, it is easily digestible for the body and is considered an ideal food.

Iran is one of the best places for algae cultivation in the world thanks to its arid and desert climate.

This company is the only company in Iran that is able to implement the full process of spirulina algae cultivation and production.

He referred to face masks, iron tablets, powder, shampoo, and soap as some of the products of the company using spirulina algae.

Iron tablets are among the products which can be used as an excellent food supplement for athletes.

This pill is organic and natural and does not contain any additives and is used to supply the body with vitamins, he noted.

Emphasizing that the pills enjoy high iron, as much as red meat, Soltani said the product can compensate for anemia and iron deficiency.

The foreign sample of this product obtained a license for import in 2003, he said, adding that the Food and Drug Organization no longer issues a license for producing the product.

Pointing out that vitamin-protein vegetable shampoo is another product of the company, Soltani said, “This is a completely herbal shampoo that prevents hair loss and dandruff while strengthening the scalp.”

He went on to say that normal shampoos have protein, but the difference between them and the spirulina source is that its protein and vitamins are plant-based.

The shampoo nourishes the scalp and is suitable for hair breakage and thinning, he concluded.
