China Develops Humanoid Robot Designed to Act as a Bodyguard
Unitree Robotics has introduced a humanoid robot capable of performing functions associated with a personal bodyguard.
According to the South China Morning Post, the robot can stop an attacker or pull a person away from an oncoming vehicle. Named the H2-X Kung Fu Legend: Guardian, the machine is based on Unitree’s H2 humanoid platform, which stands 1.8 meters tall and weighs approximately 70 kilograms.
The company has released a promotional video featuring the robot protecting a girl from a knife-wielding masked assailant and lifting a car with apparent ease to free a person trapped underneath. The video also showcases the robot’s martial arts-inspired movements and combat skills.
However, the South China Morning Post reported that the manufacturer has not yet disclosed when the robot will go on sale, how much it will cost, or detailed technical specifications.
The emergence of such a robot highlights a broader shift in the humanoid robotics industry. According to the newspaper, manufacturers that have previously introduced a range of promotional models are increasingly exploring practical applications for their technologies in real-world settings.
Despite the capabilities depicted in the promotional video, independent technical data and real-world performance assessments have yet to establish how effectively the robot could perform bodyguard duties outside controlled demonstrations.
