The export volume index gained 3.4 percent in March from a year earlier after mounting 2.6 percent in the previous month, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).

In terms of volume, outbound shipment for computers, electronic and optical devices jumped 12.1 percent in March, offsetting a decrease of 16.5 percent in export for coal and oil products.

Export volume for chemicals, metal products and transport equipment added in single digits last month.

The export value index went up 0.9 percent in March compared to the same month of last year, keeping an upward trend for the second successive month.

The import volume index swelled 5.1 percent in the cited month, and the import value index was up 1.8 percent.

The net terms-of-trade index for goods, or a ratio of export prices to import prices, rose 0.8 percent in March on a yearly basis owing to a faster fall in import prices than export prices.
