Iranian Platform Used to Forecast Agricultural Meteorology

TEHRAN (ANA)- Iranian researchers at a start-up, active in the field of agriculture, succeeded in designing a smart agricultural weather platform that provides the farmer information from the past 50 years to the next 14 days with more than 50 different weather parameters for each farm.

“Our start-up provides smart weather services in the fields of tourism and road, insurance, forecasting weather risks, energy and electricity industry, and general weather,” Seyed Mehdi Al-e Yaqub, the managing director of the startup, told ANA.

“One of the subjects that we have pursued is agricultural meteorology. In these projects, we have used methods like machine learning, neural network and artificial intelligence to process our information,” he added.

“In the smart agricultural weather platform, we provide service to 10,000 points (so-called virtual stations). For each farm, this platform provides information from the past 50 years to the next 14 days with more than 50 different weather parameters available to the farmer,” Al-e Yaqoub said.

“The use of meteorological data helps farmers to determine the best time to plant, irrigate, and harvest their crops and protect them from damage caused by adverse weather like drought, flood, dust, etc.,” he underlined.

In a relevant development in 2022, an Iranian knowledge-based company succeeded in meeting the country's needs to agricultural meteorological systems by manufacturing the product indigenously.

“One of the products of our company is meteorological stations for agricultural uses. These stations operate based on the farmers’ needs and provide them with the necessary data based on the global standards of agricultural meteorology. The sensors installed in these portable and operable stations have also been domestically produced,” said Vali Kamali Moqaddam, the managing director of knowledge-based ‘Electronic Tools Engineering Company of Yazd’.

He added that a platform has also been developed in his company to convert the information of these meteorological stations into understandable and easy data, noting that for instance, the farmer is informed of the best time to spray pesticides or harvest in this platform based on the forecast of weather, humidity and temperature.

The knowledge-based company has also designed a low-price product for smaller farms of 1 or 2 hectares, which shows basic and essential figures, including temperature and humidity, Kamali Moqaddam said.

He added that the company has also designed a monitoring system used in greenhouses and chicken farms which can measure four parameters of carbon monoxide, ammonia gas, temperature and humidity, stating that the data is highly important for the owners of the mentioned farms and helps them save water and fertilizers in greenhouses or prevent serious losses in poultry farms.
