Iranian Firm Supplies Needs for Diagnostic Catheter for Heart Angiography
Catheter is a thin, long and flexible tube that is widely used in medical science and healthcare field.
“For the first time in Iran, our company has been able to indigenize and produce the technical know-how of angiographic and diagnostic catheters,” Mozaffar Eqbal, the managing director of the knowledge-based company, told ANA.
“In addition to this product, there are other diagnostic products in the field of angiography and angioplasty, including sheets, tourniquets, etc. that we have produced,” he added.
Noting that nearly 1,300,000 catheters are used in Iran every year, Eqbal said that all these products were imported before.
Angiography is a type of X-ray used to check blood vessels. Blood vessels do not show clearly on a normal X-ray, so a special dye called a contrast agent needs to be injected into your blood first.
Catheter angiography uses a catheter, x-ray imaging guidance and an injection of contrast material to examine blood vessels in key areas of the body for abnormalities such as aneurysms and disease such as atherosclerosis (plaque).
The use of a catheter makes it possible to combine diagnosis and treatment in a single procedure. Catheter angiography produces very detailed, clear and accurate pictures of the blood vessels and helps define treatment options.
