“This product is very similar to coffee in terms of aroma, taste and color, but the main difference is that it is caffeine-free. This feature makes Orzo a good choice for people who experience problems with caffeine like heart palpitations, insomnia or stomach problems. While decaf coffee, due to special processing methods, can be more harmful to the body,” Massoud Hosseini, the managing director of the knowledge-based company, told ANA.

Noting that Orzo does not contain caffeine while giving energy to the body in three ways, he said, “First through B group vitamins, specially B3 and B6, which comes from the product's cereal base. Second, it stimulates the villi of the tongue and triggers the release of dopamine in the brain, which is produced during the product's five-step roasting process. Finally, the energy obtained from this drink is transferred to the body due to this processing and its natural compounds.”

“Although orzo has foreign counterparts and it is usually available as an instant powder that dissolves directly in boiling water, Capaggio's orzo is served with freshly processed and ground beans, which has a much better quality and taste than similar instant products in Italy and Europe,” Hosseini said.

Caffè d'orzo often shortened to simply orzo, is a type of hot drink, originating in Italy. Orzo is a caffeine-free roasted grain beverage made from ground barley (orzo in Italian, from Latin hordeum).

It is an espresso-style drink, and when prepared from the roasted barley directly, it can easily be made in typical espresso machines and coffeemakers. In Italy it is widely available in coffee vending machines and traditionally considered a coffee substitute for children.

In Italy caffè d'orzo is made in traditional Italian espresso machines in cafes. Italian families tend, instead, to make it using an orziera, a special moka pot adapted to barley.
