Iranian Company Supplies Domestic Market with Probiotic Herbal Beverages
Pishgam Kavosh Salamat Sabz Company introduced the products to the Islamic Azad University's "second step of revolution" under the title of Asreh Omid Event.
Behrooz Moradi, the managing director of the company, told ANA that Iran has a history of 4,000 years in the field of medicinal plants, and along with China and India, it is one of the first countries to introduce the science of medicinal plants to the world.
Today's lifestyle causes the occurrence of various diseases, most of which occur by disrupting the microbial balance of the body, Moradi added.
At present, one of the top three herbal beverage brands that are produced in the US also produces probiotic products, but its price is very high and cannot be imported due to the US sanctions, he explained.
We tried to supply the domestic market with a product with the same quality, he said, adding that probiotics are made up of good bacteria that help keep your body healthy and working well.
The event was held in Tehran's Mosalla from May 29 to June 1, 2022.
It aimed to exhibit new achievements and products in the technological and innovation arenas in line with opening new windows towards strengthening the idea of creating ground for knowledge-based businesses at the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Islamic Azad University.
Some 3,000 knowledge-based companies, laboratories, research centers, and startups took part in Asreh Omid Event.
In recent years, when the coronavirus disease appeared, researchers studied and found that one of the three factors that aggravate the disease is the disruption of the body's microbial balance.
They found that the consumption of probiotics can greatly strengthen the body's immune system and prevent the occurrence of diseases.
“Probiotics should be indigenous to Iran and compatible with the food culture of the country,” Moradi noted.
“Studies have shown that some medicinal plants native to Iran multiply the health-giving effects of probiotics, that is, they have a synergistic effect,” Moradi concluded.
Nafiseh Hosseini Yekta, the director of the health ministry’s Persian medicine office, has said Iran ranks fourth worldwide in the production of science in the field of traditional medicine, and the remarkable achievement will improve in the coming years.
Over 17,000 books have so far been published about Persian traditional medicine, which has been recognized by the World Health Organization, she noted.
Iranian traditional medicine strongly focuses on prioritizing health maintenance and disease prevention over treatment.
So far, about 30,000 plant species have been identified in the world, with Iran's share of about 8,000 species which is more than the whole of species found in Europe.
Some 2,300 species of medicinal plants have been identified in the country, accounting for one-third of the medicines used in human societies.
