ISC: Iran Climbs 50 Places in World Innovation, Technology Rankings over Past Decade

TEHRAN (ANA)- The head of the Islamic World Science Citation center (ISC) said that Iran has moved up 50 spots in the world rankings in the field of innovation and technology over the past decade.

Ahmad Fazelzadeh, the ISC head made the comments at the opening ceremony of the 24th Exhibition of Research, Technology and Fintech Achievements, which was held at the Grand Mosalla of Tehran while speaking to reporters.

He said that the ISC presents reports on scientific and technological progress of countries, specifically, theIslamic countrie's universities.

“According to the 2023 report of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) about the top innovative economies, India, Iran and Kazakhstan in the Central and South Asian regions are ranked first to third, respectively,” Fazelzadeh said.

“According to the reports of the Global Innovation Index, among the countries that have increased their ranking over the past decade, Iran has climbed the most 51 places from 113th to 62nd spot.”

 “Research articles are parameters for scientific outputs and patents are indicators of technological outputs and innovations that can lead to commercialization. The largest number of patents were registered in the United States, Japan and South Korea, while Iran ranked 51st in the world with 1,768 patents.”

 “Among Islamic countries, when it comes to the number of patents, Iran ranked in fifth place with 1768 patents while Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates are in the first to fourth places among Islamic countries with 17,088, 8,116, 5,765 and 2,942, respectively,” the scientific official further said.

“The number of national patents registered by educational, research and technological institutions in the country in the years between 2017 to 2020 shows that on average 440 national patents were issued every year,” Fazelzadeh continued.
