Iran and vietnam seek to expand scientific cooperation
The Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology hosted a meeting between Ehsan Ghaboul, head of the International Scientific Cooperation Center and a representative of Iran’s scientific diplomacy, and Nguyen Luan Ngoc, Vietnam’s ambassador to Tehran.
The two sides discussed ways to broaden academic cooperation, strengthen student exchanges and establish university chairs dedicated to teaching the Persian and Vietnamese languages.
During the meeting, Ghaboul emphasized the strategic importance of expanding scientific and technological cooperation between Iran and Vietnam.
He also reviewed the history of academic relations between the two countries, which dates back to 2000, and announced that a draft memorandum of understanding between the two countries’ science ministries is being prepared. He expressed hope that the agreement would be signed soon.
As part of efforts to strengthen cultural ties, the Iranian side expressed readiness to establish a Persian language chair at a leading Vietnamese university, supported by the appointment of a visiting professor. The Vietnamese side, in turn, proposed a similar initiative to establish a Vietnamese language chair at a major Iranian university.
On academic exchanges, the head of the International Scientific Cooperation Center noted that Iran currently hosts more than 100,000 international students. He proposed allocating 10 annual scholarships for Vietnamese students to pursue undergraduate and doctoral studies in various scientific fields.
The meeting also explored the possibility of connecting Iran’s 58 science and technology parks with their Vietnamese counterparts through virtual and commercial platforms.
Iran also expressed its readiness to share its expertise with Vietnam in areas including water management, smart agriculture and food security, highlighting the potential for broader cooperation in applied science and technology.
