Official: Iran Ready to Implement Oversea Petrochemical Projects
Ahmad Shokri, the director of projects at the NPC, said that considering the negotiations made with neighboring countries and in line with the government’s policy for the development of international relations, the NPC is fully ready to build various complexes in five major petrochemical fields from A to Z.
He underlined that the most important project management activity of the National Petrochemical Industries Company is currently related to the follow-up of the issues and challenges of the ongoing domestic petrochemical projects to accelerate their completion, adding, “Nearly 100 petrochemical projects have been defined in the seventh and eighth National Development Plans.”
“Based on the planning, the capacity of the petrochemical industry will reach 200 million tons annually by the end of the eighth development plan, and reaching this capacity will require 90 billion dollars of investment, of which 36 billion dollars will be attracted within the framework of the seventh development plan, and 30 percent of this figure has been supplied so far,” Shokri said.
He added that 58 projects of the 100 projects are currently underway with average progress of about 31 percent, he said.
Reports said in December that the value of Iran’s petrochemical exports rose by 30% year on year in the 7 months of the last Persian calendar year (started on March 21, 2022).
The Iranian oil ministry announced that the nominal capacity of Iran’s petrochemical industry in 2001 hit about 16 million tons, the rate of which stood at about 90 million tons this year, showing considerable growth during these years.
Despite the imposition of tough and cruel sanctions against the Iranian petrochemical industry, they could not halt the country’s petrochemicals export.
