WSA Confirms Iran’s 4.1 Percent Growth in Steel Production

TEHRAN (ANA)- The World Steel Association (WSA) announced in its latest report that Iran’s steel production in the first seven months of 2023 (January-July) has increased 4.1 percent.

Iran produced 18,100,000 tons of crude steel from January to July 2023, showing a 4.1 percent rise compared to the same period last year, the WSA said in its report.

Iran’s crude steel production in July of the current year reached 2 million tons, registering a 1.5 percent down compared to last year’s July.

The report said 63 countries of the world produced 1,103,200,000 tons of crude steel from January to July 2023, recording a 0.1 percent decline compared to the last year’s corresponding period.

China is the leading steel producer in the world with the production of 626,500,000 tons, followed by India, Japan, the US and Russia, the association added.

Meantime, the WSA reported that the global production of steel has shown a 0.1 percent decrease.

The statistics released by the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA) in July indicated that the production of all types of steel products in the first quarter of this year of 1402 in the Iranian calendar (spring season) has increased as compared to same season last year.

Iran Steel Producers Association (ISPA) published the country's steel production statistics for the first quarter of 1402 (beginning on March 21, 2023). According to the data, the country's steel production during that period was 9.474 million tons, indicating a growth of 10.5% compared to the same period last year.

In the first quarter of this year, the total production of steel products grew by 5%, the data further showed. The total production of steel products in the first quarter of this year was 5.957 million tons. The production of sponge iron grew by 8.2%, the figures further showed.

In the first quarter of 1402, 3.413 million tons of long products and 2.543 million tons of flat products were produced in the country, showing 3.8% and 9.0% increase in those two categories, respectively.
