Knowledge-Based Firm in Iran Indigenizes Key Practical Product in Steel Industry
“The porous integrated copper electrode of the slag valve with thermal conductivity can be used in Iran’s steel industry because the product originates from melting furnaces. The electronic furnaces have a super heavy load,” Majid Rahimi, the managing director of the knowledge-based company, told ANA.
He added that the heat created in the body of this product passess through the water fluid inside the ducts.
“The competitive advantages of this product are high thermal and electrical conductivity, high mechanical properties for strength and high creep resistance, proper water circulation system, one-piece and all-copper body, reduced melting time, no adhesion of molten slag, easy passage of molten slag, preventing power outages of super heavy furnaces and long life,” Rahimi said.
Recently, another Iranian knowledge-based company active in production of industrial catalysts also unveiled three improved catalysts used in making direct reduced iron or sponge iron.
These catalysts are used in steel industry and have received the necessary standards in terms of quality and performance during four years of use on a semi-industrial scale and in steel modules.
"We started production of these catalysts in 2005 in cooperation with Khuzestan Steel Company which cooperated very well with us to check the performance of catalysts. The cooperation resulted in manufacturing 70% of the country's sponge iron catalysts by our company,” said Mehran Rezayee, the director of catalyst engineering and research department of the company.
“We used new compounds in formulation of the new products, which led to better regeneration properties in the new catalysts than the previous ones, so, they could be used on industrial scale in a shorter time,” he added.
Sponge iron is formed through the reduction of iron ore to metallic iron through reaction with carbon in the form of coal, etc. at approximately 1,100 degree Celsius.
Sponge iron is also referred to as direct reduced iron, metalized iron, or hot briquetted iron.
