Iran, Pakistan’s Trade Up 48%

TEHRAN (ANA)- Spokesman of the Trade Promotion Commission of the Iranian House of Industry, Mine and Trade Rouhollah Latifi announced that trade exchanges between Iran and Pakistan hit $2.3 billion in the past Iranian (ended March 20), showing a 48% growth in value.

Latifi said that more than 4,285,000 tons of non-oil products, valued at $2.330 billion, were exchanged between Iran and Pakistan last year, registering a 48 percent and 30 percent growth in value and weight, respectively. 

He also referred to the non-oil trade between Iran and Pakistan, and said, “Of the total $2.330 billion worth of trade exchanges between the two countries, Iran exported to Pakistan more than 3,538,000 tons of goods, valued at over $1.488 billion.”

This is while Iran imported 746,700 tons of non-oil goods, valued at $841.818 million from Pakistan in 2022, Latifi said.

He added that Iran’s exports of non-oil products to Pakistan last year showed a 20 and 18 percent hike in weight and value respectively compared to the same period a year earlier. 

Also, Iran’s import of products from Pakistan recorded a 119 percent and 170 percent growth in weight and value respectively compared to the previous year’s corresponding period, he added.

The spokesman also pointed to the trade exchanges between Iran and Pakistan in the first quarter of the current Iranian year (started on March 21), saying that 968,000 tons of non-oil goods, valued at $438 million), were exported from Iran to Pakistan in the first three months of the current year, showing a 57 percent growth compared to the same period last year.

Latifi noted that oil derivatives, liquefied gas, petrochemicals, different types of industrial lubricants and motor oil, fresh fruits and vegetables, construction materials, steel products, etc. were among the main exported products from Iran to Pakistan.

Earlier, in August, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and his Pakistani counterpart Bilawal Bhutto Zardari inked a five-year strategic plan document for commercial collaboration between the two neighboring countries from 2023 to 2028.

The two diplomat held a meeting in Islamabad on Thursday, exchanging views on a range of issues, among them bilateral relations.

Amir Abdollahian and Bilawal discussed the latest bilateral political, economic and defense issues, including the development of trade ties, the exchange of prisoners as well as the security and stability of the common border during the meeting.

The Iranian minister emphasized that the agreements reached between the two Asian countries to strengthen border security will provide a suitable ground for the development of relations.
