Iranian Company Designs, Builds Geodesic Dome
“These structures are used to build low-cost residences, quick construction of camps, motels, open-air cafeterias and sports spaces,” Amin Rezayian, the managing director of the knowledge-based company, told ANA.
“This simple structure can enclose the largest space with the least amount of building materials. The special structure should be designed and implemented with high accuracy and sensitivity, and a wide range of light-weight and strong materials can be used to build the structure, including wood, iron, aluminum, etc. in a way that it covers the sloping and irregular spaces well and there should not be any need for columns inside the structure,” he added.
Rezayian explained that these structures are simple and modular in terms of structure and can be built, multiplied, repaired and changed easily, and they can be built and assembled easily and in the shortest time
“Reduction of construction waste and resistance to fire, high energy efficiency, low impact on the environment, long life and no need for special maintenance, easy transportation and very good ventilation are other advantages of this type of structures,” he underlined.
A geodesic dome is a hemispherical thin-shell structure (lattice-shell) based on a geodesic polyhedron. The triangular elements of the dome are structurally rigid and distribute the structural stress throughout the structure, making geodesic domes able to withstand very heavy loads for their size.
