Minister: Iran Ready to Implement Joint Water Projects with Iraq
“We have had very good experiences with the neighboring countries both in the field of studying and implementation of water projects, and we are ready to define and advance joint projects with Iraq in the field of studying and implementation in the future,” Mehrabian said in a meeting with Iraq's Minister of Water Resources Aoun Dhiab Abdullah in Baghdad.
“We believe that bilateral technical and legal discussions can obviate many of the water bottlenecks between the two countries and the good negotiations between Iran and Iraq in the field of water resources promise a good future for both countries in this field,” he added.
Dhiab, for his part, voiced interest in cooperation with the Iranian side regarding the implementation of joint water projects on the border rivers “that will lead to securing the interests of both countries”.
Mehrabian visited Baghdad to participate in the third International Water Conference on May 6-8.
Upon arrival in the Iraqi capital, he told reporters that the international event is a good opportunity for Iran to have an active participation in the regional environment of water diplomacy.
Mehrabian stressed that "such conferences have positive repercussions that lead to closer bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries, good neighborliness, and open prospects for joint cooperation in the field of water resources management".
