Official: Iranian Experts Find Way to Use Brackish Water of Agricultural Drains

TEHRAN (ANA)- Secretary of the specialized working group for the development of water technologies, drought, erosion and environment of the Iranian Vice-Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy announced development of a system by the country’s experts to use the brackish water resulting from agricultural drains.

“Special plans were implemented to use the brackish water of agricultural drains in areas with saline soils, specially in the Southern regions of Iran, and the results showed that by using agricultural drains in saline soils, it is possible to produce crops and pastures economically,” Nader Gholi Ebrahimi said.

“We can enjoy cost-effective production for areas that have saline water and soil by desalination operations and using the available opportunities without increasing the cost of desalination,” he added.

Ebrahimi stated that two knowledge-based companies in Iran have also succeeded in developing a device to produce water from the air, and said, “By using this portable device, water can be produced from the moisture in the air, specially in areas with suitable relative humidity or places that water supply is not possible for any reason.”

He underlined that the device has been commercialized and is being mass-produced in Iran.

In a relevant development, a knowledge-based company in Iran had managed to manufacture a device by using the electric exploding wire method, describing it as a new method for desalination of brackish water.

“The PNC1k-D device produces metal nanocolloids by using the electric exploding wire method on a laboratory scale,” Bahareh Kavani, the managing-director of the company stationed at the incubator center of Islamic Azad University’s Roudehen branch, told ANA.

“In this process, ionic impurities are removed from the aqueous solution based on an electrochemical technique and in the presence of anionic and cationic membranes,” she added.

Kavani explained that desalination of salty water with 95% and 85% efficiency, performance at pressure of 1 bar and ambient temperature, less energy consumption compared to other desalination methods, no need for pre-treatment and chemical supplements during the process, ability to adjust the output EC amount, membrane life span of more than five years, low operating cost and easy operation, arsenic removal device with card reader and plasma nanocolloid generator are the features of the exploding wire device.
