Iranian Company Produces Suture Anchor for Orthopedic Surgery
Suture anchors are broadly used for attaching soft tissue (e.g., tendons, ligaments, and meniscus) to the bone and have become essential devices in sports medicine and during orthopedic and arthroscopic surgery.
The knowledge-based Pouya Pharmed Fam company succeeded in producing suture anchor threads which is an important and basic product in orthopedic surgeries.
“The suture anchor has been produced by Pouya Pharmed Fam company in two sizes of 5 mm and 3 mm, and has 4 USP threads size 2 made of polyethylene,” said Hamidreza Farhadi, the managing director of Saman Health Research and Technology Fund.
He added that the high quality of the threads, the ergonomic design of the screwdriver handle for easier use, the inclusion of the screwdriver rod in order to know the exact location of the anchor screw, and the use of titanium for the anchor screw are among the specifications of the product.
Also, earlier this year, another Iranian knowledge-based company stationed at Pardis Science and Technology Park has been able to meet 65% of the country's needs to titanium implants used in the jaw, face and skull operations.
“The products made by our company are manufactured by using the best raw materials available in the world market under the supervision of the Iranian health ministry and are made with high quality and this product is not only competitive with foreign products, but is also sold at half the price of European and US products and they are supplied to the academic and medical centers in Iran,” said Khosro Mohammadlou, the managing director of the knowledge-based company.
He noted that the company currently supplies 65% of the jaw and face implants and 10% of the spine implants to the Iranian market.
“We also export about 15% to 20% of our products to Germany. Our parts enjoy international standards based on which we are now in the process of receiving the European CE to be able to export our products directly from Iran to all countries,” Mohammadlou said.
