India Produces over 500 Million Tons of Sugarcane during 2021-2022
TEHRAN (ANA)- India has produced over 500 million metric tons of sugarcane in the sugar season of 2021-2022, officials said.
According to india's federal ministry of consumer affairs, food and public distribution, about 357.4 million metric tons of sugarcane were crushed to around 39.4 million metric tons of sugar during the season, Xinhua reported.
India's sugar sector is self-sufficient with no subsidy from the government, officials said.
The sugar sector plays a crucial role for India’s economy, but faces challenges in terms of stagnating production, price regulations, unstable sugarcane market and water scarcity.
