Iran Launches First Geostationary Broadcasting Satellite “Jam-e Jam 1”
TEHRAN (ANA)- Iran has successfully launched its first geostationary satellite, “Jam-e Jam 1,” marking a milestone in the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting’s (IRIB) expansion into advanced space-based communication.
The satellite took off from Kazakhstan’s Baikonur Cosmodrome aboard a Proton-M rocket, entering orbit as Iran gains its first technical experience in geostationary broadcasting. Local media reported that within three weeks, “Jam-e Jam 1” will settle into its designated 34° East orbital slot.
Designed to support Iran’s new “interactive broadcasting” technology, the satellite will transmit signals to professional ground stations, rather than conventional household receivers. Serving as a critical infrastructure component, it will strengthen IRIB’s ability to distribute content across its network. Experts say the launch underscores Iran’s growing capabilities in space-based communication systems.
