Iraq Eyes More Gas Imports from Iran
Iraq has reached an agreement with Iran on importing more gas during the Iraqi prime minister's recent visit to Tehran, The Iraqi Electricity Ministry Spokesman Ahmad Musa said.
Iraq expects and hopes that more gas will be injected into its power plants, he added, saying that Tehran and Baghdad have agreed to be prepared for winter and even summer.
Musa stated that the two sides have signed the agreements and contracts regarding the injection of a certain level of gas supplies in winter and summer.
Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji said last month that Iraq’s outstanding debts for the purchase of natural gas from Iran have been paid off.
He added that Iran has received a sum of €2.6 billion from Iraq, including €1.6 billion for the sale of gas to the neighboring country this year.
The minister noted that the exports of gas to Iraq this year has increased by 1.5 billion cubic meters compared to the previous year.
