“This device, designed and produced by Mahsa Goharara, a master's degree student in medical engineering at Khomeini Shahr branch and an expert in hospital medical equipment, can play an effective role in improving respiratory conditions, specially for patients with chronic pulmonary diseases and spinal muscular atrophy (SMA),” Mehdi Nasri told ANA.

“The cough assist device is specifically designed for patients who need to evacuate lung secretions, and using advanced technologies, this device is able to create positive and negative pressure in the lungs to help patients easily eliminate chest and lung secretions and breathe more easily,” he added.

“In addition to applications in hospitals, the cough assist device for patients with respiratory diseases can also be used at home,” Nasri said.

In a relevant development in 2023, Iranian researchers at a technological company produced a syrup to treat dry coughs caused by influenza and coronavirus disease by using medicinal plants.

“One of our products is the opiocough drug whose active ingredient is called noscapine hydrochloride which is taken from the non-narcotic poppy root,” said Meysam Mosaffa, the sales manager of the technological company.

“This substance is quite effective in the treatment of coughs created by influenza and coronavirus disease and it causes production of phlegm,” he added.

“In addition to this effective ingredient, the syrup contains herbals like drosera (sundews) and liquorice which relieve dry and wet coughs,” Mosaffa said.
