“This product is completely unique and there is no similar counterpart in the world. The idea of starting the production of this rodenticide was that it was free from any harmful effects of toxins,” said Seyed Mehdi Mahjoub, the managing director of the company.

“One of the greatest advantages of this material is that it is natural and herbal. The process of this product does not require water and thus does not produce any wastewater,” he added.

“One of the major disadvantages of these chemical pesticides is the environmental pollution, like water and soil, but because we produce this rodenticide from plant waste and it acts physically, not chemically and toxically, during a series of processes, therefore, it returns to the nature without causing any environmental pollution or poisoning of agricultural products,” Mahjoub said.

In a relevant development in April, Iranian researchers at a knowledge-based company in Iran had also produced a non-toxic powder that stiffens in the stomachs of rats and other vermin and kill them without the need for chemicals.

"Nine years ago, because there were only hazardous poisons to kill rats, Tehran Municipality was looking for a new product that is only effective for rats and was not dangerous for man and rodents. Therefore, we launched a study on the anatomy of mice/rats and finally, after identifying the characteristics of the digestive system of mice/rats, we produced a specific poison for them. This poison went under changes over time. It is now considered a safe and effective product to kill rats," Akbar Niazi Waqef, the managing director of the knowledge-based company said.

"We made a kind of food after studying the rat's stomach and intestines. The food stiffens in the animal's stomach, and turns into a stiff paste. For that, the rat cannot discharge it."

"This product could also be used for farmers, shopkeepers, even households," he added.
