Measuring Viscosity of Drilling Fluids by Iran-Made Viscometer
“Viscometer is an accurate and efficient instrument for measuring the viscosity of drilling fluids, which, with its unique features and very competitive price, has been able to be a suitable alternative to similar foreign models sulike OFITE Viscometer Model 800 and Fann Viscometer Model 35A,” said Alireza Nasrollahnejad, the managing director of the knowledge-based Diaco Energy Pajouh company.
“This product is designed to accurately measure the viscosity of drilling fluids at six different speeds of 3, 6, 100, 200, 300 and 600 rpm. This device is capable of calculating the plastic viscosity, apparent viscosity and inflection point of various drilling fluids with very high accuracy.”
Noting that all parts of the device are designed and manufactured domestically, Nasrollahnejad said, “The use of domestic parts has not only reduced costs, but also made it easier to repair and maintain. Due to its special design, this device is very durable and is perfectly suitable for use in difficult conditions on drilling rigs.”
“One of the unique features of this viscometer is the use of an electric engine instead of a mechanical gearbox, which allows different speeds to be adjusted with much higher accuracy and makes the device much easier to operate. This engine also increases the life of the device and reduces its depreciation,” he underlined.
In a relevant development in October, the head of the Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research of the University of Science and Technology stressed the Iranian specialists’ capability to design and build heavy drilling rigs up to 3,000 horsepower.
“At present, the technical know-how of designing and manufacturing heavy drilling rigs up to 3,000 horsepower with the latest design of the drilling rig structure according to the API standard has been transferred and indigenized by the Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research,” Waliollah Roshan told ANA.
He noted that the first drilling rig (Fatah 71) was built, installed and commissioned in Ahvaz operational area and operational tests were conducted on it to start drilling operations 12 years ago.
The second drilling rig (Fatah 72) was also unveiled at the reconstruction site number one of Iran's National Drilling Company 5 years ago and the company is at present drilling an exploratory well in Ahvaz,” Roshan said.
“The rig 73 is a skid type and has a power of 2,000 horsepower, and the share of internal power in its construction was more than 50%,” he added.
