Iran-Made Drilling Device Determines Reserve, Grade Percentage of Minerals

TEHRAN (ANA)- An Iranian knowledge-based company has made an exploratory drilling machine  with the capability to determine the reserve and grade percentage of minerals.

“These devices are used in metal mines to determine the reserve and grade percentage of minerals,” Mohammad Akhtari, the managing director of the knowledge-based company, told ANA.

He noted that the advantage of the device compared to similar devices, whether domestic products that are being produced or the foreign samples, is its price, adding that the invention has also been patented.

“In addition to the price, the machine is more efficient than imported machines in terms of performance and efficiency, and if the average drilling efficiency of a similar machine is 30 meters, this machine has a drilling efficiency of 47 meters,” Akhtari said.

He described one of the problems during drilling as the head of the drilling device, saying, “If the drilling solution does not reach the drill head at the right time, the rock drilling head will be welded during drilling and cause the drilling rods to get stuck.”

“To resolve this problem, a method called ADA has been used so that when the water solution drops below the normal limit without an operator, the circuit system moves the rotation part of the device out of the way and prevents the torque part of the device from working,” Akhtari said.

In a relevant development in May, a team of experts at another Iranian knowledge-based company produced a set of anti-explosion equipment for operating in underground coal mines.

Roadheaders manufactured by the company are large excavating machines fitted with a mounted cutting head, having the ability to perform drilling operations continuously.

This device performs both drilling and continuously transfers the excavated soil, stone, and materials to the back.

So far, traditional methods have been used for underground mines. Only in a few mines, drilling and blasting methods have been used.

These methods cause both the efficiency to be greatly reduced. For instance, at most 80 centimeters to one meter, progress can be achieved in one working day and in one to two working shifts.

However, using the new machinery can double the efficiency at least.

The Roadheader is able to dig tunnels of different shapes (circle, rectangle, square, etc.) with different sizes, and at the same time, it can continuously transfer the stone from the excavation to the back.
