Iranian Craftsmen Utilizing Woodcarving Art to Make Furniture
TEHRAN (ANA)- In some parts of Iran, inexpensive items go through hours of patience and creativity to find luxurious value in the hands of woodcarving artists who use the inlay wood to ornament furniture pieces.
Currently, the delicate art of woodcarving is welcomed by craftsmen in the Iranian cities of Golpayegan, Esfahan, Shiraz, Abadeh, Malayer, and Shahroud where the wooden art pieces are used by furniture makers to ornament their products.
It was in the Timurid era when the wood carving flourished in Iran. The teak doors made up of several decorative and epigraphic panels joined together and inset into a frame are a magnificent example of carved inlay wood from the heyday of the art in Iran. The pair of square panels with geometric designs reflects carved Iranian woodwork of the fifteenth century. It is now preserved in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
