Iranian Company Makes Lyophilized Pills with Innovative Platform
“In our company, we work on an innovative and special pharmaceutical platform, which currently exists only in a few countries in the world, and in our country, only one or two forms of it are imported,” said Hamidreza Motaseddizadeh Sorkhbidi, the managing director of the knowledge-based company.
“Also, in the field of medicine, we have focused on lyophilized tablets that dissolve in the mouth in less than three seconds and have a high absorption rate. These drugs have specific uses and are very useful for human health,” he added.
“We are trying to take an important step towards improving the health of society and self-sufficiency of the country by indigenization of this platform and producing new medicines,” Motaseddizadeh Sorkhbidi.
“In our company, relying on our knowledge and expertise and taking advantage of existing patents, we succeeded in developing a type of lyophilized tablets that were previously only produced in a few specific countries,” he added.
Typical freeze-dried tablet consists of a drug enclosed in a water soluble matrix made of a hydrophilic structure-forming polymer (usually gel- atin) and a filler (saccharide ñ usually mannitol). Other ingredients of the tablets may be sweetening agents (aspartam), taste-masking additives and preservatives.
Oral lyophilizates are solid single-dose preparations, obtained by the lyophilization process, which are intended to be placed in the mouth, where the drug is released in saliva and swallowed, or alternatively intended to be dispersed or dissolved in water before oral administration.
