VP Underlines Iran’s Significant Growth in Exports of Knowledge-Based Products
“We have experienced 9-fold growth in knowledge-based exports and 4-fold growth in knowledge-based export companies in the 13th government (of the late President Rayeesi),” Dehqani Firouzabadi said.
He also announced the return of over 3,400 researchers to Iran, with more than 1,400 returning in the last three years alone.
The official reported a dramatic increase in the sales of knowledge-based companies, which have surged by 225 percent, reaching 530 trillion rials this year, adding that the oil ministry has also seen a more than 4.7-fold increase in first-time contracts, highlighting the expanding opportunities and ventures within the sector.
“The private sector’s investment in the knowledge-based field has doubled, showcasing a robust commitment to advancing technological and scientific initiatives,” Dehqani Firouzabadi stated.
He reported that export figures have risen from $296 million to an impressive $2.52 billion last year, adding that the number of exporting companies has quadrupled, and the variety of exported products has doubled, indicating a strong and diverse international market presence.
Dehqani Firouzabadi stressed that these accomplishments reflect a strategic shift in the country’s approach to fostering a knowledge-based economy, saying, “The focus on enhancing both domestic and international market presence is paving the way for Iran to become a significant player in the global knowledge-based economy.”
In a relevant development in June, the technology department of the Iranian Ministry of Science had unveiled the ‘JAN’ system (new economic flow) by introduction of 7,000 Iranian knowledge-based products for sale.
The new economic flow (JAN) system is one of the important and key systems of the Ministry of Science, in which all technological units and knowledge-based, start-up and innovative companies register their products and by connecting to the systems of ‘Tavaniran’ and ‘Setadiran’ of the Ministry of Industry, Mining and Trade, prevent allocation of government currency for the import of similar products, promote the production of home-made products and support domestic technologies.
Preventing currency outflow is one of the other benefits of registering the knowledge-based products in this system. The system is also supported by the Scientific and Industrial Research Organization.
At present, 46 technology parks are members of this system and more than 7,311 products have been presented by 2,315 companies.
The Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) announced in May that the Iranian knowledge-based companies exported over 3.6 million tons of products worth $2.506 billion in the past Persian calendar year (ended on March 19).
