Energy Official: Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Efficiency Hits New Record High in Q1
The director general of the Department of Planning and Operation at Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company Sanaz Jafarzadeh said that in the first quarter of this year (March 21 to June 20, 2024), through proper operation and the allocation of the major share of production to combined cycle power plants, the cumulative efficiency of thermal power plants increased to 39.7% for the first time in Iran.
Sanaz Jafarzadeh pointed out that the daily production of thermal power plants exceeded 1,000,000 megawatt hour (MWh), adding, “This amount of daily energy production potential of these plants was made possible with the capacity and ability to produce 51,000 MWh of thermal power plant.”
Emphasizing that 50% of the country's energy production portfolio during this period was the share of high-efficiency combined cycle power plants, she added, “The production of thermal power plants in the first quarter of this year increased by 3% compared to the same period last year.”
“This amount of increase in production has been achieved only through 1.5% growth in equivalent fuel,” the energy official said, adding, “This shows the optimal performance of our colleagues in the power plants through adopting preventive measures and doing proper and timely repairs and the optimal preparation of the thermal power generation plants, which have resulted in producing more energy with less fuel growth and supply it to the customers of the electricity industry.”
She further expressed hope that the intensified efforts and proper operation of power plants will continue to grow even further in the future, expecially duing hot summer days.
