Tehran, Doha Trade Ties Up 41% in 2 Months
The trade and economic ties between the two countries stood at the trajectory of growth in the first two months of the current Iranian year, said Iran’s Commercial Envoy to Qatar Abbas Abdolkhani.
Agricultural and food products, aquatics, dried nuts, carpets, and construction materials were among the main products exported from Iran to Qatar in this period, he added.
Abdolkhani stressed the need for the expansion and development of trade and economic relations between the two countries, specially given the good political relations between the two countries.
He said that high-ranking officials of the two countries are determined to expand relations in the fields of trade and economy.
Abdolkhani pointed to the neighborly advantage and vicinity between the two countries, saying that the geographical proximity can reduce transport costs.
Iran possesses diverse natural resources and agricultural productions, and Qatar has a dynamic consumable market, he said, adding that it makes the two countries complementary in the development and expansion of trade and economic relations.
A senior Iranian trade official announced in November 2022 that Tehran and Doha had agreed to increase their bilateral trade to $3bln in four years.
“Based on an agreement between Tehran and Doha, (bilateral) trade is expected to rise from a meager figure of $200 million to $3 billion in the next four years,” Spokesman of the Iranian Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade (MIMT) Omid Qalibaf said.
He added that the two countries had agreed in a recent trade fair in the Qatari capital Doha that food exports from Iran to Qatar would soon reach 250 metric tons monthly.
According to Qalibaf, exports to Qatar from Iran’s Southwestern port of Dayyer had nearly tripled to reach 80 containers per day after X-ray equipment was installed in a local customs office in the port.
He added that Iran’s exports to Qatar grew 30% in the calendar month to October 22 compared to the same period last year.
