Mohsen Khojastehmehr, the head of NIOC said that the Sepehr and Jafir fields based in the West Karoun region, 60 kilometers off Southwest of Ahvaz, the capital of Southwestern province of Khuzestan, will start soon. “This national project will be put into operation in a contract worth $2.8 billion with daily production of 50,000 barrels of light oil for export.”

He explained that because of the reservoir’s high pressure, it was not possible to use ordinary wellhead and downhole equipment, therefore job was done by applying the 10,000-pound-per-square-inch (psi) pressure to it.

He referred to the installation of 51-kilometer-long oil transmission pipeline and construction of an access road with a length of over 32 kilometers as other operations carried out for the two fields’ development.

“I would like to express my gratitude for the efforts of my colleagues at the NIOC, the petroleum engineering & development co. [as the development arm of NIOC,] and the contractor company for the development of this project, which is an important symbol of homegrown capabilities,” the NIOC managing director added.

As many as 135 wells will come on stream and 110,000 bpd will be produced per day when the operations of the Sepehr and Jofeir project is over.

Just a day after Khojastehmehr remarks, the two oil fields were officially inaugurated in a ceremony attended by Iran’s President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi and Oil Minister Javad Owji on March 8, 2024.
