Deputy Minister: Iran Ready to Provide Regional States with Transit Access to Free Waters
Amani made the remarks, addressing the 86th meeting of the United Nations (UN)’s Inland Transport Committee (ITC), held in Geneva on February 20-23 with a theme of ‘Taking ambitious climate action – Moving towards decarbonized inland transport by 2050’.
Amani underlined Iran’s diplomacy of international transportation development and its readiness to provide maximum transit access of the regional states to the free waters in an interactive framework via all kinds of passageways through the Iranian territory.
He pointed to the growth of road transport, which should lead to initiatives to reduce the negative impacts of transportation on the environment, and said, “Road transport services should maintain competitiveness for society with low-cost and quick-yielding solutions.”
Earlier, in February, another official with the Iranian Ministry of Roads and Urban Development had said that in the first 10 months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2023-January 21, 2024), a total of 12,661,000 tons of goods had been transited from the country, indicating a 40.5% increase compared to the same period last year.
“In total, 12,661,000 tons goods were transited thorough the country, showing an increase by 40.5% in comparison with the same period last year of 1401 (March 21, 2022-January 21, 2023),” said Kamal Hadianfar, the Deputy Minister for Transport Affairs at the Iranian Roads and Urban Development.
Hadianfar, who is also secretary of the Transportation Coordination Supreme Council, said that 4.1 million tons of oil products were transited via Iranian land, showing an 88.5% hike compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, 8.561 million tons of non-oil products were transited through Iran’s territory from March 21, 2023, to January 22, 2024, registering a 25.2% growth compared to last year’s corresponding period, the deputy road minister further said.

The development of transit is one of the main pillars of the general policies stipulated in the 7 edition of Five-Year Development Plan.
