Zarepour made the comments in a meeting with the First Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Communications of Cuba, Wilfredo González Vidal and his accompanying delegation in Tehran.

Attaching importance to developing relations with the Republic of Cuba, Zarepour pointed to similarities between Iran and Cuba, given the fact that the two countries are under oppressive sanctions in particular, and said that, “These sanctions have been an opportunity for our country and the Iranian companies have been able to develop knowledge, especially in the field of communications and technology locally.”

Referring to the capabilities of Iranian companies in various communications and information technology, he emphasized that those companies are ready to develop communications infrastructures, launch different platforms, implement the fiber optic project, and also contribute to enhancement of Cuba's communication network from a generation to higher generations of second and third to the fourth generation and laying the ground for the fifth generation in cooperation with the government of that country.

“The optical fiber project for homes and businesses with the aim of creating 20 million people coverage is underway since last year by activating 9 operators.  A project like that in other countries with the same size in Iran usually lasts for about 10 years in countries, while in here, such a project is planned to be done within about three and a half years.”

Referring to Iran’s experiences in the field of electronic government (E-government) that has been developed to provide more convenient access to various government services and information through one window, he stated, “This experience can be useful for the development of E-government in Cuba. For that, the two countries can cooperate in this area.”

The Cuban delegation, for their part, said that in accordance with the 2030 development document in their country, the communication and information technology industry has a special place, and emphasized that there is a readiness for cooperation between the two countries in all the above-mentioned fields, especially in the field of the development of the communication network and electronic government.
