“Our industrial group is active in shoe-making and we produce all types of specialized and medical shoes,” Vahid Nami, a PhD student in business administration at Islamic Azad University’s Tabriz branch, told ANA.

“We are the first large group in the Iranian shoe industry which has produced the first medical shoes for the treatment and improvement of all types of foot diseases, including genu varum, genu valgum, and knee disorders,” he said.

“And to treat knee disorders, we have produced and marketed appropriate medical shoes based on the international standards,” Nami said.

He added that the medical shoes produced by the research and development (R&D) department of the industrial group has been patented.

In another development in September, an Iranian nanotechnology company used silver nanoparticles in antibacterial insoles special for diabetic patients.

“We managed to achieve a technology to use silver nanoparticles to prevent the growth of bacteria in shoes,” said Alireza Mosayyebi, the director of Papia Teb company's R&D department.

“Development of such antibacterial insoles is highly important for the diabetic patients because if they have foot ulcers and use ordinary soles, the accumulation of bacteria in the wound area is inevitable and causes infection, which is a matter of risk,” he added.

"We did two things for production of these special insoles; first, we used nanofabrics in the structure of insoles; second, we manufactured a device which can spray nanoparticles on insoles and then, by applying heat, nanoparticles are fixed on the insole. As the last step, we sprayed the deodorizing solution on the product,” Mosayyebi said.
