Iran to Open Trade Center in Armenia Soon
Seyyed Masoud Mirkazemi, head of Iran’s Planning and Budget Organization (PBO) made the remarks in a meeting with Arsen Avagyan, the Armenian ambassador to Tehran, during which he also referred to the strategic relations between the two countries and said, “With good political relations between the two countries, it is unfortunate that the volume of economic relations is not at a favored level at all.”
Referring to Iran's membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Iranian official said, “The current Iranian government attaches great importance to the development of economic relations with its neighbors.”
“Tehran and Yerevan should remove the barriers to the development of relations to help the private sector to increase the level of bilateral trade,” Mirkazemi added.
He stated that Iran's trade center will soon open in Armenia by the private sector, adding, “We are ready to help open a similar Armenian center in Tehran, because we believe that the private sectors of both countries are not well aware of each other's markets and potential.”
“If Armenia’s private and public sectors become familiar with these capabilities, they can plan well even for the re-export of Iranian goods,” he added.
Mirkazemi further pointed to Iran's capabilities in the field of medicine; medical equipment and services and said, “Iran ranks first in the world in possessing oil and gas reserves and has made good achievements in the energy sector despite the sanctions. We are ready to expand cooperation in this field and we welcome the investment of the Armenian side in this sector.”
