Iran, Azerbaijan Agree to Complete Astarachai Bridge Soon
The agreement was made in a phone conversation between Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development and the Head of the Joint Economic Commission of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mehrdad Bazrpash and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev.
During their phone talks, Bazrpash underlined the need for the further development of bilateral relations between Tehran and Baku.
Expediting preparation of the Khoda-Afarin hydroelectric plant for operation was another issue discussed by Bazrpash and Mustafayev.
They also agreed to continue phone talks regularly and once every two weeks until reaching an agreement.
Mustafayev, for his part, conveyed the message of Azeri President Ilham Aliyev regarding the importance and effectiveness of the meetings between the two countries’ officials, and lauded the formation of special committees to achieve the results of the agreements.
Iran and the neighbor Azerbaijan had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in June 2021 for cooperation in constructing a bridge over the Astarachai border river.
The MOU was signed by the then Iranian Transport and Urban Development Minister Mohammad Eslami and Moustafayev in Baku.
Based on the mentioned MOU, the two sides would jointly fund the 4.7-million-euro project.
