News ID : 8046

The meeting will be participated by Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadeq and Azerbaijan's Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev, and a 40-member delegation from Azerbaijan to discuss different economic issues, including transportation, banking, investment, energy, tourism, etc. along with cultural and communications issues within the framework of expert committees.

Also, a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is due to be signed with the participation of chairpersons of Iran-Azerbaijan Joint Economic Cooperation Commission to further bolster bilateral ties in different areas.

Azerbaijan’s ties with Iran were strained in January last year following an attack on the country’s Embassy in Tehran, which prompted Baku to close the mission and evacuate its staff over, what it called, a “terrorist act.”

An initial Iranian investigation, however, found that the attack had been motivated by “personal and family-related problems.”

In July, Azerbaijan reopened its Embassy in Tehran after more than a year of successful negotiations between the two neighbors towards easing the tensions.
