Trade Exchanges between Iran, Azerbaijan Growing
Head of the International Affairs Department of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development Amin Tarfa’ said that the trade exchanges between Iran and Azerbaijan in 2024, registering a 20 percent growth compared to the last year’s corresponding period.
He made the remarks at the start of the 16th Iran- Azerbaijan Joint Economic Commission meeting in Tehran.
Tarfa’ put the trade exchanges between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2023 at about $480 million, and underlined joint cooperation between the two countries in the fields of energy.
Various issues will be discussed at the commission for mutual cooperation in areas of electricity, oil, gas and banking.
Earlier this week, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held a meeting with Azeri Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev during which the two sides emphasized strengthened cooperation between the two neighbors.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran has the development of relations and interactions with neighboring and Muslim countries as a principled policy on its agenda, and in this regard, relations with Azerbaijan are of particular importance to us, and we seek to expand relations in all fields between the two countries," Pezeshkian said during the meeting in Tehran.
He also point to the agreements reached and joint projects currently underway between the two countries in the trade, energy, and transportation sectors, saying that, "Continuing and strengthening the level of this cooperation will turn the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan into strategic partners for each other."
Mustafayev, for his part, conveyed warm greetings from Azeri President Ilham Aliyev to his Iranian counterpart, saying, "Over the past decades, the Republic of Azerbaijan has spared no effort to expand relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Moreover, the important changes that we have witnessed during this short period of your presidency promise a bright future in the relations between the two countries and the situation in our region."
