“We managed to process this plant under the scientific name of Capparis Spinosa in the form of pickles,” Zahra Radmanesh, a member of the knowledge-based company active in the fields of agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries, told ANA.

She noted that one of the advantages of the plant is its economical production which is suitable for underprivileged areas, adding that it can be sold in the form of buds and fruits in the domestic and foreign markets.

“This plant does not need irrigation, fertilizer and poison, and in addition to its medicinal properties, it is a tasty and popular product that reduces diabetes and liver fat if is consumed continuously,” Radmanesh said.

“Our recommendation is to cultivate the plant in poor and underprivileged areas whose water wells have dried up. The plant can be presented to the market at a good price by harvesting and processing it which is very easy, ,” she stated.

“We have cultivated the plant in Hormozgan, Sistan and Balouchestan, Semnan, Zanjan and Qazvin provinces and Taleqan city near Tehran, and it has grown well,” Radmanesh said.

In another development, Iranian experts also used a homogenizer device manufactured by a domestic company to extract medicinal plants in remote and underprivileged areas.

“Since we are active in the field of producing and processing mushrooms and medicinal plants, the homogenizer device can be much more useful than other methods and can work with higher efficiency in the field of extracting effective and high-quality substances,” Sadeq Mahmoudi Hashemi, a representative of the creative company in the field of medicinal plants, told ANA.

Noting that the device has been made by researchers of an Iranian knowledge-based company, he said, “The device has wide applications in various fields and given the field of our activity, we want to use the homogenizer device for extraction of medicinal plants.”

Figures in April showed that Iran has exported more than $660 million worth of herbal medicines in recent years.

As a vast country with different climates, Iran is a suitable place for planting and growing different types of herbs, a report by the Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology says, adding that as statistics show currently, about 90% of medicinal herbs are grown inside the country.
